What has been approved?
The Cabildo has approved the detailed repair project for the underground car park. It covers structural defects and the renewal of the facility’s installations.
The document, prepared by architect José Moriana Pericet of CEMOSA, updates a project commissioned by the Town Hall in 2021. The update was commissioned in May 2025 and completed with reports from the municipality, heritage authorities and SINPROMI.
The €5,053,337 figure is the base tender budget, rather than the price of an awarded construction contract.

Why has the car park been closed?
The Town Hall announced a public closure in March 2024 after a technical report identified shortcomings in the fire-protection and smoke-extraction systems.
More than two years later, the Cabildo’s October 2026 announcement describes the car park as still closed because of deterioration in its structure and installations. The repair project is intended to recover this parking facility in the old town.
The next steps towards reopening
Project approval allows the works to move towards tendering, followed by the planned collaboration between the Cabildo and the Town Hall. The 7 October announcement gives no construction start date or reopening timetable.
Drivers should wait for a separate reopening notice before treating this as an available place to park.
The square above the car park
Plaza de Europa is the seafront square beside the Town Hall, close to the fishing harbour and Santa Bárbara battery. The outdoor square and the underground parking facility serve different purposes.
