Periplo 2026 runs from 19 to 25 October in Puerto de la Cruz, and its full programme is now available. The Festival Internacional de Literatura de Viajes y Aventuras fills a week with author conversations, travel writing, journalism, an exhibition and special events at Lago Martiánez and other festival spaces.

The opening day brings the Travesías exhibition and conversations with Javier Brandoli and Jorge Volpi. Across the week, visitors can also hear Gabriela Wiener, Capucine Trochet, Mónica García Prieto, Javier Espinosa and many more. Use the daily schedule below to choose your sessions.

What is Periplo?

Periplo is Puerto de la Cruz’s international festival of travel and adventure literature. Writers, journalists, travellers and other invited voices explore what it means to cross a border, discover a place, leave home or tell a story from the road. Books anchor the festival, but its programme also reaches into photography, film, culture and current affairs.

For a visitor, it is a chance to hear these conversations in the town itself, with events spread across the Lago Martiánez area. The 2026 theme, La humanidad que resiste, connects stories of movement, solidarity and the ways people care for one another.

Authors and Guests at Periplo 2026

The published programme now includes a much broader line-up than the first announcements. Jorge Volpi presents La República on the opening evening, while Javier Brandoli presents Carbonara con nata. Margaryta Yakovenko discusses Ocupación; Capucine Trochet shares the voyage behind Tara Tari. Mis alas, mi libertad; and Gabriela Wiener presents Huaco retrato and Atusparia.

Other conversations bring Antoinette Tidjani Alou, Josep M. Palau Riberaygua, Ramtin Zigorat, Elena Ortega, Antonia Varela and documentary filmmaker Kartiki Gonsalves to the festival. On Saturday evening, international reporters Mónica García Prieto and Javier Espinosa discuss the responsibility of witnessing and reporting conflict. Travesías Exhibition

Travesías. Menores migrantes, el largo viaje opens at 17:00 on Monday 19 October in Sala Lido, Lago Martiánez. José Naranjo and Juan Luis Rod trace the journeys and lives of thirteen young people who arrived alone in the Canary Islands. The exhibition accompanies their photobook, which they present at 18:00 on opening day.

Exhibition visiting hours: Monday 19 October, 17:00–21:00; Tuesday 20 to Saturday 24 October, 10:00–14:00 and 17:00–21:00; Sunday 25 October, 11:00–14:00. The exhibition is in Sala Lido at Lago Martiánez.

Where is Periplo 2026?

The festival’s principal event spaces are at Lago Martiánez on the seafront in Puerto de la Cruz. The official programme distinguishes Carpa Lago Martiánez, Carpa Sotavento and Sala Lido; the latter hosts the Travesías exhibition. Check the venue code beside your chosen session on the organiser’s timetable so you arrive at the right space.

Periplo Secreto uses a location disclosed to registered participants through clues before the event. Do not head to a presumed meeting point without the organiser’s instructions.

The programme covers 19–25 October 2026. The festival has published an at-a-glance timetable and a detailed 32-page programme. Check both for final start times, spaces and any event-specific access information.

Periplo Secreto: Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October at 22:00. Register with periplosecreto@festivalperiplo.com; the organisers then send the clues and meeting instructions. The main programme does not state a single admission price or booking rule for every activity, so do not assume the secret events and public conversations have the same entry arrangements.

Accessibility: the organisers state that the “Voces de Periplo” conversations in the Lago Martiánez marquee will have Spanish Sign Language interpretation. Look for the indicated symbol in the official programme when selecting a session.

Local Tips for Visiting Periplo

The Lago Martiánez area is on the eastern side of central Puerto de la Cruz, close to Playa Martiánez and the San Telmo promenade. If you are staying centrally, walking is often the simplest way to reach the festival spaces.

Allow time to find your specific marquee or the Sala Lido before a talk starts. If you are attending more than one activity, note the different rooms on the official timetable. For the late Periplo Secreto events, follow the instructions sent after registration and plan how you will get home.
