During MUECA, streets and squares across Puerto de la Cruz become spaces for live performance. The annual festival brings theatre, circus, dance, music and urban art into the town centre. Its Puerto Street Art connection also gives visitors artworks to seek out beyond festival days. This guide explains what a visit feels like and where to explore that lasting art; dates, performers, venues and tickets belong to the programme for the particular year you visit.

What is MUECA?
MUECA is Puerto de la Cruz's international street arts festival. Instead of visiting one theatre, you move between performances in public spaces around town. Depending on the year's programme, you may encounter theatre, physical comedy, contemporary circus, dance, music, installations and activities for different ages. The mix of artists and formats changes with each edition.
The town itself is part of the experience: a performance may draw you into a familiar square, then a short walk takes you to a very different piece nearby. Come with a few favourites in mind, but leave time for discoveries between them.
Where does the festival happen?
MUECA uses a network of town-centre streets and public spaces rather than a single entrance or stage. The exact locations and routes change between editions, so use the map published with that year's programme to plan which performances are close together.
If you want to get familiar with the town before festival day, our Walking in Puerto de la Cruz guide introduces the central streets and seafront. The Art guide covers murals and permanent work you can seek out on a different day.
Street art to explore beyond festival days
MUECA's connection with Puerto Street Art has left more to discover than a single year's programme. Large wall murals give La Ranilla a striking open-air gallery. Look closer at its houses for Apodos, Juliana Serrano's painted family nicknames. Julio Nieto's 5 Faces were installed through the MUECA 2020 urban-art programme.

Choose a few performances and explore between them
A good first visit is built around the kind of work you enjoy: perhaps a street theatre show, a circus performance and some time to wander between venues. Some pieces are short and easy to encounter while exploring; others may have a fixed start time, limited space, age guidance or a ticket or reservation requirement.
Check the current edition's programme for performance times and accessibility information, then allow enough walking time between venues. If you are visiting with children, select shows by their current age guidance rather than assuming every performance is aimed at families.

Plan your MUECA visit
MUECA takes place annually, but its dates, venues, programme, reservation rules and accessibility arrangements are published for each edition. Before travelling, consult the current programme and map, especially if there is one show you do not want to miss. Wear comfortable shoes for moving between spaces, expect busier areas around popular performances, and follow any venue guidance on arrival.
This page explains the festival across years. When our guide to the next edition is available, it should contain that year's confirmed dates, map, show times and booking details.
