Ayuntamiento and Plaza de Europa

We take you on a 4K video tour of the iconic Town Hall building and Plaza de Europa.

The building is located on Calle Santa Domingo right next to the area known as windy corner (El Mirador de la Punta Viento).  Over looking both the sea and the street, the construction of the building then known as the Convent of San Pedro González was started in 1608 and finished around 1659 by the The Dominican Order.

In 1778, the convent suffered a devastating fire resulting in reconstruction being undertaken between 1781 and 1786 by the
architect José de Bethencourt y Castro.

The property was seized and confiscated by the state in 1837 and then passed in to private ownership.  During the nineteenth century the building was the property of  Luis Rodríguez Figueroa, a respected attorney and a prominent politician, who, in 1936, during the Civil War was murdered for being a republican congressman.  Until 2005, the house belonged to the Family Rahn who sold it to the City of Puerto de la Cruz.  It is now the home of the Town Hall of Puerto de la Cruz.

This December 29, 2023 marks 50 years since the inauguration of the current building where the main headquarters of the Puerto de la Cruz City Council is located.

At the hands of the General Directorate of Architecture and Guillermo Rahn and Bernardo Evans Yeoward, this building was built, which celebrates its golden anniversary on this day in 2023. “An anniversary that reminds us of the passing of the years in a municipal facility where the sovereignty of the citizens of Porto has resided since 1973,” stressed Mayor Marco González.
