AluaSoul Orotava Valley Hotel Review

Many thanks to Susan Burke, a member of our Facebook group, for the following review of AluaSoul Orotava Valley Hotel.
We spent 11 nights there at the beginning of September 2025. This hotel has lots of positives, so that's where I'll start.
We checked in after midnight and was greeted with a glass of Cava and a seated area to check in due to us having the My favourite wrist band. I'll come to that later.
Our room was very spacious , clean and airy. Lovely sea views. The maid service is excellent. Cleaned every day, sheets changed regularly. The hotel is very clean in all public areas.
The food is variable in quality. On the hot plate area there was always plenty of food cooked to order. Omelettes in a morning are truly delicious. We found breakfast time was the best food.
Lunch and dinner time , lots of different kinds of fresh fish,  turkey, chicken, pork ,burgers, pizzas on there too.
The buffet find wasn't as good to be honest, rarely hot and quite bland.
Plenty of continental cold meats cheeses, salads and different breads. Deserts also there was plenty and fresh fruits.
The snacks at the pool bar are cooked to order and very  good.
The staff work very hard and we found very friendly,  helpful etc.
The all inclusive drink menu was quite good, branded spirits etc.
No mad rush for sunbeds either by the pool.
Shuttle bus into town. 15 min walk.
This hotel isn't suitable for people with mobility problems despite lifts everywhere. Long corridors once you get out of them.
Now the not so great points.
We met people who was shown rooms down on ground floor basement.  Lift to these are outside on the pool area.. As soon as you get out the lift,  the smell of damp and sewage  hits you.
The room they was shown ( 3 actually) had wall paper hanging off, black mold on the walls and was unfit to stay in. The fourth room at the back of the hotel was fine. The receptionist was extremely  rude to them.
If you can't keep access to your room when you leave, which we couldn't as the hotel was fully booked, the place to get ready wasn't really acceptable.  It's a public toilet down near the pool bar. Broken shower,  no where private to get dry and dressed.
Entertainment not great , the usual  kind of bad singers.
Your all inclusive stops on the day you leave at 12 o clock, they will give you a different  wrist band which entitles you to lunch.
Now, the My favourite  Club wrist band  information.  We upgraded our room this was included.  This is well worth doing if you can
You get a free stocked  mini bar on arrival and exclusive access to a private lounge area, open 11 am to 6 pm. Sandwiches,  snacks, sweet things, bottled beer, soft drinks , lots of food to eat and things to drink.
Bathrobe and slippers in your room and sunbeds to.
Bottle of Cava in your room on arrival.
Would we stay there again ?  Yes if they improved the food , it definitely needs improving.
Although you need never go hungry or without.
It's just not consistent. We've stayed in lesser star hotels with better food.

Many thanks to the author of the following review. They would prefer not to include their names.
I just wanted to share myself and my wifes experience at the AluaSoul Orotava Valley.
We stayed here from the 9th- 16th Sept 2025, half board for my wife's birthday.
When we first arrived at this 4 star hotel we were very impressed by the sheer size of the hotel and how clean it was. Also we where greeted by Kruger at reception, we can not fault his genuine care and excitement during our full stay! He was amazing!  On check in they explained where local attractions where on the map, he gave us our half board and favourite club passes (we paid extra for them,) we were given a glass of Cava and he directed us to our room. Reception is open 24 hours.
The 7th floor was the main entrance and reception, pool tables, the entertainment area and a bar plus seating area.
The favorite club includes:
Lounge room on the 6th floor, sunbeds at the pool area. Nespresso coffee machine with capsules included in the room and reserved area at the restaurant buffet.
The room was on the 8th floor room 8019, the main reception is located on level 7 so we did not have far to go via the elevator, on exiting the elevator the was long corridor leading us to our room - no stairs in corridor and sloped ramp so no issues for wheel chairs or baggage.
Our room  was a very spacious sized living room with a balcony and ocean view . They had a bottle of Cava and bottle of water for us sitting in the room for our arrival along with a welcome card, in the room their was a mini bar stocked with 2x different brands of beer, coke, water and Fanta.
The bedroom was clean (personally not up to my standard as did find various hairs and smudges on mirrors but I have a 5* housekeeping background) and also spacious for us with small table and chairs beside the bed.
The bed itself was made up of 2 single beds that where pushed together (not the best for a couple and you tend to fall down the middle of the beds as they where are not attached together)
On the bed were 2 house coats, 2 towels and 2 pairs of slippers.
There was a door leading to the balcony and 2 big  widows that opened fully.
Attached to room was an ensuite bathroom with walk in shower. 2 x Glasses, 2x  towels along with bath matt. There was refillable bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
On my wife's birthday they did surprise us with a bottle of wine and a card for her in our room, it was a lovely touch.
On the 6th floor was the favourite Club that we paid extra for this was opened from 1100 - 1800. In this large room was multiple comfy chairs with cushions and tables spread out on the left.
On the right side of the room was a variety of fridges that stocked a wide range of apple/orange juice, Cokes, Fanta, water and beer - including non alcoholic beer. On the counter tops where freshly made sandwich's and filled croissants and a small fridge with various desserts. One side did display vegetarian sign but it did not state which items. Fresh items where changed daily. There was also fresh fruits available also.
For the coffee lovers there was a fancy coffee machine (wide range of pods/containers? sorry I don't drink these) and various teas available. Also there was a range of sweets and nuts in glass containers.
On the 6th floor is the Terra buffet restaurant.
Service times -
Breakfast - 07.00-10.00
Lunch - 13.00-15.00
Dinner - 19.00-21.30
On entrance to the buffet room its massive you are offered extras of the day various from cocktails to wine and beers at an extra price.
In the restaurant there is a wide range of food sections from fresh cooked eggs and pasta, to desert/ fruit tables, and also the main back hot plates. Most food is labelled with what it is and allergens. However there was a wide range of dishes that did not mention is they were vegan/vegetarian or contain wheat or milk. My partner is Vegan and gluten free and found it very difficult to eat a proper meal she was really limited to just salad.  When we did ask the staff member that where on the floor, one in particular was very helpful and checked the others said they understood but kept pointing to meat and cheese foods so we did not trust them (we spoke to them in Spanish and English).
We did raise with the reception as I contacted the hotel to make sure that had food she could eat as she has allergies to a lot of food and was assured that they would have something. I personally seen them direct other guests who where vegetarians to food that they told they could eat but we knew they could not have and had to tell the other guests not to. As paying half board it was very annoying as we could only eat there for breakfast as had wide range of fruit of my wife but dinners/lunch we had to eat out most nights.
There states to be 3 restaurants in the hotel but this isn't the case one is the main buffet restaurant that serves as a buffet but also as an a la carte and the other is Nubium but this is under refurb at the moment.
On the 4th floor was there was the pool bar Kenta that served food and drink served from 11.00 - 18.00. The food was tasty and the cocktails where very heavy on the alcohol side (we did not mind this )
Ther was plenty of deckchairs (that only a hand full are reserved till 11am if in the favourite club). Guest were very respectful of not leaving towels to reserve chairs as this was not allowed. There is also cabana bed and towel that you can purchase for 30Euro - you get to use the money at the Kenta bar after the purchase.
The pool its self was opened from 10.00 - 19.00. It states to being warm , I personally did not find this to be the case part from the last day but the sun was shining and it was overcast the rest of the week.
You can rent towels from the reception on floor 7,  One towel is 10 Euro, you are giving a card to give to the lifeguard on level four and he will give you the towel. Once finished with the towel give back to lifeguard and repeat the process to get money back at the reception.
Floor 1 there is also a small pool (more for splashing feet in) with deck chairs. That was always quite quiet so perfect for anyone wanting peace.
There is a main gym on the 5th floor but this is currently closes due to refurb.  However on the 6th floor there is a side from opposite the buffet that you can exercise in/yoga.
Now for activities - there is a few posters and activity board up but they didn't seem to match so you had to ask to work out what was on that day.
There is the wonderful entertainer Anna (she speaks various languages) who hosted a wide range of activities from rifle shooting, archery theses are held just across the road from the hotel on the ground floor in a separate looks like batting cage. she meets you at the 4th floor Kenta bar though first to take you there.
During our stay there was also things held on the 7th floor entertainment area -  bingo and quiz's that where helped by anna, they were fun and interactive via phones. It was good fun as the guest got involved with each other.
On the bad side there was Live music - we were all expecting like traditional music but there was just a signer who signed songs from the 80s - she was nice but not particularly good.
There was also a dynamic visual show that was good but I personally felt like the Entertaiment was not up to a 4 star quality.
Shops - getting to the shops we found easy getting down to them as we went from the 7th floor to the 4th floor pool elevator that took us down to the bottom of the main hill on floor 1. This was the best thing I read from previous reviews and the main entrance hill is very steep. The shops then are located 5-10 minutes down hill.
Not getting back up the hill was a different matter in okay shape and even I had to sit on a wall up the hill. My partner could not do the walk. There are taxi ranks all over the place especially from the centres. you can easily flag them also. It cost roughly 3-5 Euros from taxi from loro park and the main plazas.
For excursions you can get these in the main lobby of the hotel  but we found using Erik at the Tourist information shop between Monopol and the Plaza charco to be amazing, he was super friendly and took his time to explain best trips and gave us good deals. Also if you mention the PuertoDeLaCruz.info page he gave you free gifts. When we purchases tickets to Loro Parque he explained best routes to explore to see all the animals and how to beat the queues and see all the shows without rushing. It was fantastic!
There is a free bus that visits the hotel daily that takes you to the Shopping centre Martinez. Bus timetable given at the reception on arrival. (there is also local markets here)
We found that you can easily interact with guests and they where sociable- we made friends and enjoyed playing pool together.
On departure they state you need to order cold breakfast the day before from the morning of departure but we found out that they don't take you arm bands (half board, b&b or inclusive) off you so you can still have a hot fresh breakfast at the buffet restaurant. We were able to leave our luggage with the reception in a secure room beside the lifts. Entrance to this was controlled by reception. There was no charge.
The reception were very good at calling local taxies for you and gave you a pin code to give to driver so make sure it was your taxi they also told you the rough cost of the trip so you don't get conned.
The mini bar in your room can also be topped up for an extra charge but we don't feel this necessary as we just used the favorite club for drinks.
Overall I would stay again but would only stay bed and breakfast if traveling with anyone without allergens as it was very difficult for the food. And if there was a good deal or all inclusive other than these I would stay else where for the money we paid. We did feel for being a 4 star the food and entertainment was not up to our standards but it wasn't the worst.

Review of the AluaSoul Orotava Valley Hotel in Puerto de la Cruz

Below is an attempt to present my impressions (3 weeks in January 2025) as objectively as possible:

1. Staff: Absolutely friendly staff. 9 out of 10 points. One point deducted as it is evident that the reception operates consistently in a business-oriented manner. Customer centricity is lacking or only provided at an additional cost. Otherwise, the staff are friendly and attentive.

2. Location / Accessibility: Without a car, guests need to be in excellent physical condition. For older guests or those less physically able, reaching the centre is quite an effort, as the hotel is somewhat distant and the route is VERY STEEP.

Tip for guests: Take the lift up to the pool level and then use the pool lift to reach level 1 and exit through the rear door to save your energy. To return, access via the rear entrance, use the key card to reach level 1, take the lift to the pool level (level 4), and then use the other lift to go higher.

For car renters: Especially in the evenings, the few parking spaces on the street are quickly taken. It may be worthwhile to use the small parking lot above the hotel complex. It is free, close to the hotel, but also has limited spaces.

3. Hygiene: The hotel, including the bathrooms, is clean and cannot be faulted.

4. Noise levels: Rooms facing the street are subject to traffic noise from cars and buses. For those seeking true tranquillity, rooms facing the sea (ocean) are preferable, although the sound of the sea will be audible. The soundproofing between neighbouring rooms is acceptable.

Drawback: The noise from drainage pipes in the bathroom is unpleasant. It is possible to hear waste falling to the lower levels.

5. Entertainment programme: The hotel offers a varied programme. However, likely due to the profile of guests in an adults-only hotel, there is little lively atmosphere. It was noticeable that guests were also reserved towards each other, something I have not experienced in other hotels. Those looking to socialise might feel disappointed.

6. Internet: For those who, like me, rely on the Internet, do not rely on the hotel’s claim that it is available in all rooms. While it appears connected, it was generally unavailable during the day. Also, do not assume that your German provider’s data plan is genuinely unlimited.

SOLUTION: Purchase a prepaid SIM card from a local provider. These are much cheaper than in Germany and offer, for instance, 300 GB for €20. You only need your ID card to register and activate the card, which is ready to use immediately. I purchased a prepaid SIM card at the "Centro Comercial La Villa / Alcampo" in "Puerto de la Cruz" from Vodafone, and it worked perfectly for €20. While the hotel claims the Internet is at least available at reception level, this is not convenient for everyone.

Conclusion: In my personal opinion, the hotel is not suitable for people with health limitations, remote workers, or those looking for social interaction. I would NOT book this hotel again and CANNOT RECOMMEND it for the reasons outlined above.
