Hotel Puerto Palace Review

Many thanks to Ross Coleman, a member of our Facebook group for his review of Hotel Puerto Palace.

I travelled solo to Puerto de la Cruz and wanted a B+B hotel with bar and entertainment and the Puerto Palace hotel looked good. I was checked in by friendly English speaking staff at reception and went upto my room on the 1st floor (of 4 floors) via 1 of 3 lifts at reception (there is another lift at the far ends of the building too).

My room was located above the restaurant but had a nice pool view which faced Teide when visible. The room was a great size and had everything i needed including a free to use fridge with complimentary water on arrival. There was also a safe for hire from reception.

You could hire large beach towels for the sunbeds although none were available when I tried to hire (10EUR returnable deposit) but I just used my room towels. The hotel is away from the centre and the front, not an issue for me as I enjoy walking/hiking but it's quite a hill on the return journey!!! There is a hotel bus but only at limited times of the day and last return trip was about 5.30pm so can't be used for an evening out, grab a taxi if need be.

The hotel has a reasonable on site bar, varied entertainment from singers to illusionists and there's a restaurant for evening meals but I only ate in there at breakfast. Breakfast was good with choice of eggs, Spanish bacon, varied cold meats and cheese plus lots of fresh fruit, yogurt and bread. There are varied pool areas and jacuzzis to choose from,  including for the more adventurous, a nudist only area on the rooftop with its own pool and jacuzzi. I had a hire car which I always managed to park in 1 of 4 roads by the hotel, still less than 30 seconds away even when I parked the furthest away during my stay.

A 4 star hotel, that certainly lives up to it's stars.
We arrived late at night at 10.45pm and immediately the reception told us food was set up for us in the dining room, a lovely mix of tapas and salad, with a large bottle of water in ice.
A perfect welcome.
In the room was a mini fridge with a bottle of wine and two bottles of water, with a bowl of fresh fruit too (all included in the standard room). The rooms were very spacious, with two large beds side by side and they were very comfy. We had a ground floor room overlooking the gardens. It got the late afternoon sun, so was perfect for us and was very quiet.
The hotel itself is stunning, when we arrived at night it looked beautiful all lit up. Every part of the hotel is immaculate and all of the staff were so friendly and helpful. Drinks in the bar were well priced at around 3.50 euros for a beer and around 6.50-8.50 for a cocktail (which were amazing). The bar is all waiter service and they really can't do enough for you, including giving you free nuts and olives. The bar food is lovely for lunch too. (Pizzas, burgers, hotdogs, fish and chips etc).
The pools are stunning, one large pool (slightly heated) and a smaller freshwater pool with a waterfall. There is also a children's pool and mini play area at the side and another pool on the rooftop (we didn't see that one though as it's a naturist area). 😃 On top of that there are two jacuzzi's that are the perfect temperature. Lots of sunbeds and lots of quieter areas to sit, including a higher level mazzanine and an indoor library/reading room. You can hire pool towels for a 20 Euro refundable deposit in the hotel shop too.
The hotel also offers lots of free activities to keep families and holidaymakers entertained: Crazy Golf (which was great fun), Patank bowls area and table tennis. For the sporty ones there's also a full sized basketball net, a tennis court and a badminton/volleyball court. There is also a gym/spa attached for a small fee which we didn't use. The gardens are beautiful and well kept and you will often spot small lizards peeking out to say hello.
Breakfast 7am-10am:
A huge selection of items to choose for breakfast. It's never too busy and there are always tables. The restaurant is always very clean and items are topped up constantly. We only saw sausages once, but always freshly cooked bacon, eggs (fried, scrambled and hard boiled). There are lots of potato items...fritters, croquettes, potato bites and tomatoes, mushrooms and salad/cheese selections. There is lots of variety of breads and fruits too, including a large selection of yoghurt's and cereal. I particularly liked the variety of pastries.
Evening meal: 7pm-10pm
Lots of variety, not as nice as breakfast, but still plenty to choose from including soups, salads, meat, pizza and fish, breads and cheeses. Lots of food is cooked fresh by the chef to grab whilst it is hot. I really liked the little vol-au-vents and the croutons. There is an ice-cream machine (whippy) and lots of cakes and pudding choices.
Overall lovely food and a fantastic hotel for a couple, single traveller or families that prefer a quieter holiday away. A delight from start to end.

I just wanted to share my experience of visiting your lovely town and staying in this beautiful hotel.

The staff and management are wonderful. I have never stayed anywhere before where the desire to make guests happy and comfortable is made so obvious.

I'm hoping that you might share my review as it might go a little way towards thanking them for such a wonderful relaxing holiday.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, so a big shout out for the gardeners, who are often forgotten in reviews.
Another special mention to the kitchen staff, who unfailingly produce something to please everyone at both breakfast and dinner.
Then a mention for the cleaning staff, who work so hard to keep the rooms and all the other areas so immaculately clean.
And to the always friendly bar and reception staff who serve everyone with a smile without ever seeming obsequious.
Finally to the management who tick every box, while managing to keep their staff smiling.

As for Puerto de la Cruz as a holiday destination, it's just beautiful.
Friendly people wherever I went, the gardens are lovely to wander around and Loro Parque deserves a mention, along with all the great places to eat or just enjoy a cocktail while people watching.
I also enjoyed the modern art gallery and a visit to a great car boot sale. Thanks for the 5 euro neck massage, whoever you were.

I can't wait to return and perhaps bring some of my family with me next time. I have never felt the desire to revisit a holiday destination as much as I do beautiful Puerto de la Cruz.

Best Wishes
Jos
