Anna Vandepute and the Canary Islands
Belgian-born Anna Vandepute (1923–2013) made Tenerife her home and found lasting inspiration in its people, landscapes and traditions. She trained in fine art in Roeselare, specialising in portraits and still lifes, and her work includes island folklore, everyday scenes and the faces of local people.
Puerto de la Cruz was part of her artistic life for decades: she exhibited at the Instituto de Estudios Hispánicos de Canarias as early as 1960. This new exhibition offers a chance to reconnect with that story, alongside paintings by her granddaughter Kati.
The show is titled Desde 1945: Canarias en la mirada de Anna Vandepute — the Canary Islands through Anna Vandepute’s eyes.
Exhibition Dates and Opening
The opening takes place at 18:00 on Wednesday 11 November. The exhibition runs until Friday 20 November 2026.
The poster below gives the opening time. For a visit on another day, check the current exhibition hours with the castle before setting out.

Finding Castillo San Felipe
Castillo San Felipe stands beside Playa Jardín, on the western side of Puerto de la Cruz. The municipal venue directory lists its address as Paseo Luis Lavaggi, 12, 38400 Puerto de la Cruz.
The former coastal fort now hosts exhibitions and cultural events as El Castillo Espacio Cultural. Its stone walls and seafront setting make an inviting stop on a walk from the harbour towards Playa Jardín.
