A little gem of a place, the English Library is located in the Parque Taoro area of Puerto de la Cruz. It first opened its doors in 1903 and since then has been a focal point for the British ex pat community in the north of the island of Tenerife.
Run solely by volunteers, its opening hours are Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 10 am until 1pm.
There is an impressive selection of both paperbacks and hardbacks available to borrow, with a huge amount of effort being made to ensure new releases are also acquired as quickly as possible.
Aside of the books, there are also jigsaw puzzles and DVD’s available for rent too.
MORE THAN JUST A LIBRARY
Acting as a gathering place for the British community, the library provides more than just books. It arranges and host a variety of social events throughout the year, ranging from garden parties, illustrated talks, ladies lunches, quizzes and art exhibitions to name but a few of the things that go on.
In addition, there are Spanish classes, a history club and a computer club.
ENJOY A CUP OF TEA OR COFFEE
The library itself is surrounded by large spacious gardens filled with lots of colourful flowers and plants, all carefully tended by the group of volunteer gardeners that work very hard to maintain the grounds.
After you have had a browse through the large array of books and perhaps had a go at finding a piece of the jigsaw puzzle that is permanently on the go, you can treat yourself to a cup of tea or coffee with a biscuit and sit in the morning enjoying the morning sun.

Currently the annual membership for residents is 40 euros per year.
There are special arrangements for holidaymakers and long term visitors so that they too can enjoy the great selection of books, puzzles and DVD’S.
