Many thanks to Hugh Shuggie Thompson, a member of our Facebook group for the follwing review.
I'm just back from a 7 day all inclusive break from this hotel & decided to write an honest opinion, as I was skeptical on reading the mixed reviews, before I went.
I want to state, I'm from the UK & I'm in no way affiliated to this hotel or any travel agent, I'm retired from the construction industry.
4 of us stayed, 2 couples ranging from 58 to 62 years old. In 2 rooms on the 11th floor.
The hotel is clean & well maintained.
The staff are friendly & approachable, always smiling & work hard to please.
The rooms are good, clean & spacious. They have a sliding door wardrobe, each room has a safe that was 3 euros a day. The bathroom was also spacious, with shower, bath, toilet & bidet.
Yes it is advertised as four star & probably was, but due to its age, the decor is outdated, but still possesses the rustic charm.
As for the food, I can honestly say it's good & varied, yes it's Spain so don't expect a Sunday roast dinner, but they always had a choice of meats from pork, chicken, fish, breads, cheeses & salads were plentyful. The deserts apparently were delightful according to my wife & we always found dining a good experience. There was waiter service for drinks at lunch & supper.
The hotel has 3 lifts, I did read a review that lifts kept breaking, but this is a floor alignment issue, it's a 5 minute reset by reception & there was still 2 lifts available, funny how people only point out & post pictures of the bad things.
The pool is excellent & clean, plenty of sunbeds with parasols, a lifeguard on duty, with drinks & food available from the poolbar. There is no reserving of sun loungers, as towels are removed if bed is vacated for more than 30 minutes. Pool towels are available from reception for a 10 euro deposit, you get this back when you check out.
Evening entertainment was not great to be honest, they did have singers & varied bands, but not our thing as we preferred to explore the quaint town.
The all inclusive drinks was great, yes local brands, I can say the beer, sangria, Bailey's, & wine was fine
The hotel itself is located approximately 1.2 kilometre from the center of the vibrant town, nice stroll down & only 4 euros for taxi back, after exploring the town.
Puerto del la Cruz is a quiet relaxing town, with buskers playing relaxing music as you stroll around, you can see street artists, from puppeteers to statues, it's not like the south of the island, so don't expect banging music coming from bars as you stroll by.
I forgot to mention my brother has a prosthetic leg & is disabled, he hired a mobility scooter, it was delivered to the hotel, so getting around the hotel & town was a doddle, Spain are excellent when it comes to wheelchair access, ramps are everywhere.
All said we had a brilliant relaxed time.
