One of favourite little places to use when we don’t fancy going in the center of Puerto de la Cruz, is the Casa Canaria Bar in the little village of Punta Brava.
Punta Brava is on the outskirts of Puerto de la Cruz, separate by the Playa Jardin area of beach and gardens. It is home to the world famous Loro Parque. With it’s small square, and children’s playground, overlooked by the huge Church of Santa Rita, it has a real village feel to it.
Casa Canaria is easy to find, located overlooking the square and facing towards the church, perhaps best reached on foot as parking in the village is not the easiest.
The bar has ample outside seating area, which is shaded from the late afternoon sun making it a great place to sit and enjoy a beer or a coffee or something to eat.
Fran and his team of staff are always very welcoming, providing an efficient and friendly service. The place is also very clean.
WHAT’S ON THE MENU?
As with most bars on the island, there are plenty of alcoholic offerings – including spirits, beers, and a small selection of wines as well as the usual soft drinks and the always present coffee machine!
We have eaten a lot of different types of meals here as the menu is pretty extensive including pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, meat and fish dishes as well as tapas. The pizzas are also freshly made and cooked in the impressive pizza oven.
One of my personal favourites are the variety of tapas, and personally I tend to have the seafood paella (as it is available in a half size ration which is ideal as my partner does not eat it!), as well as their croquettas and their garlic mushrooms which are always sizzling hot and extremely garlicy.
My partner often has the pork chops which he has with salad and Canarian potatoes – but you get two quite large chops and he invariably cannot finish them both.
Menus are available in multiple languages too.
VALUE FOR MONEY
This is a good value for money choice, with a no frills service giving the opportunity to eat and mix with the locals with whom it is a firm favourite.
There is also an inside dining area but this is really warm in the summer!
The only downside to the place is that the toilets are up a flight of stairs and there are no provisions for wheelchair users to be able to access them.
Other than that, a good value for money dining choice.
