Lago Martiánez is Puerto de la Cruz's oceanfront complex of seawater pools, gardens and open-air art. Conceived by César Manrique, it brings swimming and the volcanic landscape together beside the Atlantic. Come for time by the water, look out for the design details, or make its seafront setting part of a longer day in town.
What is Lago Martiánez?
Also known as Costa Martiánez, this is a landscaped leisure complex beside the sea, centred on a large seawater lake with other pools around it. Basalt, planting, terraces and sculptural elements make the setting as much a part of the visit as the water. The complex was conceived by the Canarian artist César Manrique, whose work connects built spaces with their natural surroundings.
It is a place to slow down and enjoy the Atlantic setting within Puerto de la Cruz. If you prefer to explore on foot, the surrounding promenade gives you a different view of this part of the seafront.
Pools, gardens and Manrique's design
The central lake gives Lago Martiánez its familiar name, but the smaller pools and landscaped areas are part of the experience too. Look around as you move through the complex: dark volcanic stone, white surfaces, plants and sculptural forms create a distinctive contrast with the ocean beyond.
You can enjoy it as a swimming day or simply take time to notice the spaces between the pools. This combination of recreation and public art is why Lago Martiánez merits a visit of its own rather than a passing mention in a beach guide.
Opening times
The published general timetable is 10:00–19:00 from 1 July to 30 September and 10:00–18:00 for the rest of the year, daily. The municipal tourism listing separately gives a 17:00 last admission for its 18:00 closing timetable, so do not plan to arrive at closing time. Opening and final admission can change for events or operational reasons; confirm the displayed times at the entrance when you visit.
Admission prices
Under the municipal tariff published in January 2025, a standard day ticket is €7 for visitors over 10 and €4 for children aged 4–10. Children under 4 enter free. The ticket includes use of a sun lounger. An umbrella costs €3 and access to the hydrotherapy pool costs €2 extra.
Reduced Puerto de la Cruz resident rates are €3 for those over 10 and €2 for children aged 4–10; qualifying resident pensioners also pay €2. Eligibility and identification rules apply, including a resident card for people registered in the municipality. These are published municipal prices, so check the entrance tariff for any later changes. If you leave the complex, the published rules require a new ticket to re-enter.
Food and drink at Lago Martiánez
You can plan a full pool day without leaving for lunch. The complex has restaurant, bar and café facilities for meals, drinks and snacks. In its most recent detailed reopening notice, the council named Los Alisios restaurant, Bar La Isla, Bar Terraza and smaller refreshment carts inside the grounds. Individual outlets and menus may vary on the day, so see what is operating when you arrive.
For a meal outside the complex, the seafront and streets nearby offer further choices. La Taberna del Lago is in front of the Lago rather than inside the pool complex; you would need to finish your visit before leaving if you do not intend to buy another entry ticket.
Where is Lago Martiánez?
The complex is on the seafront along Avenida Cristóbal Colón, at the eastern side of central Puerto de la Cruz. The promenade, Playa Martiánez and town centre are close enough to combine on foot. If you are staying in the centre, you can make a relaxed outing of the walk here and carry on towards San Telmo afterwards.

Lago Martiánez, Playa Martiánez or the shopping centre?
These nearby places share the Martiánez name, but offer different experiences. Lago Martiánez is the landscaped seawater-pool complex. Playa Martiánez is the natural beach next door, where conditions depend on the sea. Centro Comercial Martiánez is the shopping centre a short walk away.
For a day by the pools, choose the Lago. For a look at the natural shore and more options around town, see our Beaches guide. If you want shops or a nearby café stop, see Centro Comercial Martiánez.
Plan your visit
Allow unhurried time if you want to swim, eat and enjoy the landscaped setting. Bring your swimwear, towel and sun protection; the admission price includes a lounger. Choose one of the food and drink options inside if you plan to stay throughout the day, as the published tariff requires a new ticket after you leave.
You can pair the visit with a walk along the promenade, nearby shops and the older streets of Puerto de la Cruz after you leave the complex.
